About
Our History
In 1959 a forward-thinking group of individuals had a vision for helping the employees of the City of Middletown assume control of their financial needs. Phil Bauer, Peter Grassi, Robert Martin, John Riordan, Sebastian Santostefano, John Scanlon, and Donald Scranton were instrumental in the formation of our credit union. On July 9, 1959 Charter #13112 was granted approving the organization of MiddConn Municipal Federal Credit Union.
MiddConn Municipal Federal Credit Union was organized originally to serve the employees of the City of Middletown. The Credit Union office was located in the basement of City Hall. Because of cramped quarters and lack of privacy, loans had to be dispersed in a broom closet. Since then MiddConn has expanded its field of membership to include over 20 Select Employee Groups (SEGs) and is still growing and adding to its family. We are now located at 213 Court Street in a spacious office where our members can conduct their business and visit with friends and co-workers.
Through the years MiddConn has broadened its services beyond the basic share savings and simple loans offered in 1959. We now offer many diverse services to meet the ever increasing financial needs of our members. Credit union membership totals over 2,200. The guiding principles of the credit union movement have been at the very heart of our operating philosophy and commitment to providing members with superior service delivered with promptness, courtesy and respect.
In 2007 we added the members of Standard-Knapp Employees Federal Credit Union to our family. We also changed our charter and our name. Now MiddConn Federal Credit Union serves anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Cromwell, Durham, East Hampton, Haddam, Middlefield, Middletown and Portland.
